READ: The Spirit, The Gift

“When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Par’thians and Medes and E’lamites and residents of Mesopota’mia, Judea and Cappado’cia, Pontus and Asia, Phyrg’ia and Pamphyl’ia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyre’ne, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our tongues the mighty works of God.” And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.””

Its a good day to white wash the brainwashed spiritual people of our beloved Nigeria. This article was inspired by the popular video of MFM warriors quenching fire with prayer (Click to watch video). What an Irony; a church with prayer points that ends with “FIRE!!!” tries to quench a fire. So before I get petty with MFM, I’ll just move on as we all have other things to do.

Today’s episode is about Speaking in Tongues. Back in school, I was in between Churches (before I decided to go back to Catholic) and one thing that was a cliche amongst all the New Generation Pentecostal Churches (excluding White Garments, Methodists, Orthodox, Evangelical, CACs etc) likes of Deeper Life, MFM, RCCG, Christ Embassy, and Winners Chapel (I did attend each of these Organisation’s Student Fellowships at one point or another), and it was SPEAKING PRAYING IN TONGUES. Everything we know about speaking in tongues is in the bible and the only time it literally happened, it was to aid evangelism, but these days, it has been eroded by Paul’s preaching of Praying in Tongues.

The Following should be noted about an Authentic/Divine Speaking in Tongues

  1. The Speaker does not know he/she is speaking in another language
  2. At least, a listener understands the language.
  3. The speaker is conscious about that event.

In rough translation, an uneducated Yoruba Preacher, passing a message in Russian, whilst to him the preacher, he just did the same in Yoruba.

According to the listed churches, it is a gift every born again christian must have and therefore, every Born again Christian in Nigeria have the following phrases while supposedly under the influence of the Holy Spirit; rabababa, retetete, shakata, robobobo, scroborobo, reberebe. If you are reading this and you find your phrase here, Edakun (please), stop, hell is not a joking stuff. The spirit is not using you, you are under the influencer of your church leader.

According to the bible, there are seven gifts, and Speaking in tongues being one of those, you cannot all have the same gift and also multiple gifts as well. Yes you all will say its not literal, but it is. It happened, it wasn’t a parable, it happened like he resurrected as well as him turning water to a properly aged Bordeaux wine. God already speaks all languages, and praying to him doesn’t not require you to speak a language you’ve not learned. Rather, he’d translate your words about him to foreigners in their languages.

If you are not still happy, I’d like to have the details of just one Pastor of any of these Churches (with their numerous Nigerian Branches) that does not speak in tongues. Go ahead, argue with your G.O, if you’re still not satisfied, I’m in my house, come and beat me.
